THE NEW AMERICAN
RANDONNEUR BIKE, COMPLETE (very complete)
The idea behind this
bicycle was to create an "American Randonneur" bicycle. The implication
in the name meant a few things to us as we began the process of creating this
bicycle.
- It is intended for American roads,
not Northern Europe's cobble stones and dirt roads.
- The amount of time put into it
is commensurate with an American sensibility for what is artistically and
mechanically possible.
- Our customer made it clear to
us that we had a great deal of freedom in both the general design, and in
coming up with answers to questions that very few if any people have ever
asked.
With all this in mind, we designed
and build a bicycle which is;
- Not quite as single minded - straight
only tracking as a classic European Randonneur bicycle,
- Has slightly less than the traditional
clearances for tires and fenders,
- Is designed for somewhat lighter
luggage loads.
But it still;
- Has a classic 17 degree quill
stem,
- Sports a Brooks B-17 saddle,
- Uses bombproof wheels and tires,
- Is designed for full length custom
painted Berthoud stainless fenders,
- Accommodates quick release Berthoud
bags,
- Integrates an internally routed
lighting system.
